On Sunday, I took one of my favorite espresso-colored crepe wraps and cut it to shorten it from a 4.6 to a shortie that I could use for a quick rucksack. Logan was begging to be worn, but I knew we wouldn't be using it long enough to qualify some of the longer lengths.
(If that sounded like a foreign language to you, quick translation: I cut some of my favorite fabric so that I could wear Logan on my back like this.)
ANYWAY, Daegan quickly claimed the remnant (the remaining fabric) and has been toting it around the house like a lovey. He wraps himself in it much like I wrap up in my pashminas, and he just indulges in the fabric. I know he has beautiful memories of that wrap- he has spent many, many hours of his life viewing the world over my shoulder from his quiet perch on my back.
Tonight, though, really brought home how sweetly he loved it and wanted to keep those memories. He wrapped himself in the remnant, and then fell asleep on the couch. When moved to the bedroom, he whispered in my ear, "Mommy, roll over so I can sleep right by your back." I rolled to my side, he snuggled up, tucking the ends of the wrap around himself.
It was bittersweet, thinking about how big he is now- he is absolutely not a baby anymore!! He is an articulate, intelligent child. I remember wearing him with his cheek pressed up against my heart, knowing that by simply existing I was enough to feed, soothe and nourish him.
Those days are gone now. Parenting is much more challenging, made even more complicated by having to share it with someone who only seems to favor conflict. But at the end of the day, no matter how hard the day was, he still wants his mommy. And for that, I am deeply grateful.
PS. At night, when he closes his eyes during prayers, I like to tell God how much I love him and how proud I am of him, and I point out things that he had done that day that were considerate, loving, or just genuinely pure-hearted. No matter how he tries to pretend he isn't hearing me, he can't help but smile. Seeing that sweet eyes-closed smile on his face just melts me every day!!

Pictures! :)
Here are some pics from August. Not in order, but we took the kids to the Children's Museum, and they had SO MUCH FUN. I haven't seen Daegan smile that much in SO LONG. Also, two slices of heaven. One dripping in the best grease ever, and the other one hidden where no one ever seems to go. I have been trying to keep this blog updated, but frankly there is so, so much I cannot write about yet!! :) Till then, here you go.
PS. A special thanks to my own personal paparazzi! :) <3
I love these pictures and cannot wait to see the rest.
