Why it's good to ask for clarification...

Daegan crawled into bed with me, and we were snuggling and whispering to each other.

After a while, he says, "Mommy, can we look online at pictures of private parts?"

"Um... WHAT?"

"I want you to show me pictures of penises, Mommy. It's easy. Just Google it."

"No. Absolutely not. Why in the world? What? Why would you ask for this?"

"Mommy, because I want to look at them. Can we see vaginas, too?"

*Starting to get REALLY freaked out and concerned at this point...*

"No, baby! How do you even know there are pictures of penises and vaginas on the internet?"

"Because the internet has EVERYTHING, Mommy."

*Deep breaths*

"Has someone shown you these pictures before, baby?"

"No, mommy. Why can't we see them?"

"Sweetheart, why do you want to look at them?"

"Because I want to see how they work... you know, like we do with the heart? I want to see inside the antatomy (how he says anatomy, lol)."

Oh sweet profanity! OF COURSE he does. We do that with ALL the body systems, so why not that too? Le sigh. I guess I know what system we are studying next. Talk about child-guided education. This about gave me a heart attack! Now to search for age-appropriate approaches to the system without discussing the birds and the bees yet...

Rivalry

Screaming emanates from the bedroom.

Me: Boys! That is NOT how you show love!! STOP FIGHTING!

Daegan: Aw, Mom! Why do you always say that? Why do you make us stop fighting? We like to fight. It is fun. YOU ARE SO MEAN!!

Me: Doesn't sound like fun. Screaming and crying sounds like sad hearts and angry hearts. Not happy hearts.

Logan: Mommmmm... fighting FUN! I wanna fight brother!

Fall Fun

I tried to get the boys to pose for a picture together, and this is as close as they came. The dog (whose dog is this? I have no idea. We adopted it for our adventure. Then he went home.) had to appear for a cameo. Logan gave Daegan the flowers he had refused to surrender all afternoon. The sticky, dirty, unposed and completely real gesture here made it worth 1000 posed fall pictures.

This one is a dear pic for me... this is the little dirt country road that I grew up on. I took the boys down there, and there was something about that evening moment where they were running down the road with a mangy, muddy dog, flowers grasped in one hand and a lollipop in the other... it was priceless. Country roads, take me home.

friends

The following all occured within 20 minutes.

Daegan and Logan are drawing by my feet while I work on schoolwork.

"Mommy, look what I did!"

He shows me a paper airplane, decorated in the heiroglyphics of early childhood. He turns it around, and on the wing, he has written, "Daegan, Body and McKayla."  On the other wing, he has drawn three perfect stick figures holding hands.

"See, mom, these are my friends. I love them. They love me. So we are on a plane together. Isn't that so cool?"

Yeah, baby, it is. What a sweet child!
***

"Mommy, do you miss your friends?"
"Yes baby, I do."
"I miss my friends too... because I left them."
"Where did you leave them?"
"At school. And I miss them. Can I go play with them now?"

***

Logan is crying, trying to find his jammies.
"Here, brother, don't cry. I will help you find them."
They find the jammies.
"See? I help you because I love you, brother. I love you sooooo much!"

***
"Mommy, I gave my friends plane to Logan."
"Why baby?"
"Because it is happy friend's day, and Logan isn't just my brother. He's my best friend."

Bubbles

"I can do it all by myself!"

"I can help you, Logan!"

Logan isn't sure which emotion to choose.

I love how much our family laughs together.

Look at the love in his eyes. His brother may just be his favorite person in this world.

Beautiful smiles!

Paparazzi

I am sure you can guess how proud this made me...

Water Balloon Fight!

Today was a beautiful day.

Homemade taco picnic outside, in the grass under the shade tree.

Then...

A water balloon fight!
Enjoy these pics while I slip these tired little boys into

a warm bubble bath, clean jammies, and sweet dreams.

Baptism

For all those who couldn't be there.

It starts with communion.

Dedication Ceremony 10/09/11

"As surely as you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the LORD. I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD." And he worshiped the LORD there."

1 Samuel 1:26-28 (NIV)

The dedication ceremony is a ceremony where I promised to raise the children in FAITH, and in LOVE.

Praying....

More praying. Daegan has a little trouble with his attention span at this point. ;)

Oh, come on... there is ALWAYS room for a little Charlie's Angel's action in church!
